Smoke and Fire Ecology is the study of how wildfires and smoke help plants grow and forests stay healthy.
Think of it this way
A baker cleans out a greasy oven by running it on high heat. The heat burns away old grease and ash. This ash falls to the bottom and makes the oven surface ready for new use. Forests work the same way — fire clears dead plants and puts nutrients back into the soil so new plants can grow.

Some seeds need smoke to start growing. Black pine seeds grow better when smoke touches them. Fire clears old plants so new ones have room. Smoke sends a signal that tells seeds it is safe to sprout.
