Which type of grass survives the longest without water? You plant four varieties in separate cups:
- Rye grass
- Bent grass
- Bermuda grass
- Centipede grass
You water them at first. Then you stop and track survival for one month. Bermuda grass holds up the best throughout the experiment. Centipede grass survives but grows unevenly. Rye grass starts strong but wilts in the fourth week. Bent grass dies within a week of sprouting.

Method & Materials
You will need four 10 oz. plastic cups, potting soil, and four types of grass seeds. Fill the cups with soil, add the grass seeds, and place the cups in direct sunlight. Monitor the grasses' germination and growth for a month.

The results showed that bermuda grass was the best drought-resistant grass. It continued to thrive throughout the experiment. The centipede grass was just as persistent but did not really grow evenly. The rye grass grew the best from the start but wilted on the fourth week of experimentation. The bent grass did not grow very well and died a week after it sprouted.
