Yoga and Blood Pressure

Hard
Yoga and Blood Pressure | Science Fair Projects | STEM Projects
Can daily yoga lower your blood pressure over one week? You divide 20 participants into two groups. One group watches television for two hours each day. The other group practices yoga exercises, breathing techniques, and meditation for the same time. You measure each group's blood pressure right after their sessions for seven days. The television group shows a slight rise in blood pressure. The yoga group shows a steady decline after a few days.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis is that persons who have been practising yoga will have reduced blood pressure.

Method & Materials

You will divide the participants into two groups and measure their blood pressure with a portable wrist blood pressure monitor. The first group will watch television for two hours and the second group will practice yoga for two hours.
You will need a yoga instructor, a television set, 20 male participants between the ages of 35 and 45, and a portable wrist blood pressure monitor.

Results

The results of the experiment showed that the participants in the yoga group had a decline in their blood pressure after a few days, while the participants in the television group had a slight increase in their blood pressure. This proves that the hypothesis that persons who have been practising yoga will have reduced blood pressure is true.

Why do this project?

This science project is interesting because it shows how yoga can be used to reduce blood pressure, which is a common health issue.

Also Consider

Variations of this experiment could include different age groups or female participants, or comparing the blood pressure with other activities like listening to soft music, aroma therapy or practicing tai chi.
