Androstenedione and Rat Weight Gain
Hard
Does androstenedione actually cause weight gain in rats? Many athletes claim this hormone supplement helps them build bulk. Most professional sports have banned it as a steroid.
You give rats a daily dose of androstenedione and weigh them each day. You track their weight changes over time to see whether the supplement leads to real gains.
The results show whether the claims about this popular supplement hold up under a controlled test.
Hypothesis
The hypothesis is that androstenedione will increase the weight of the rats.
Method & Materials
You will place the rats in their cages, weigh them, give them the appropriate and equal amount of androstenedione, and reweigh them every day.
You will need cages, androstenedione, and a scale.
Results
The results showed that the rats that received the androstenedione did experience weight gain. All of the rats taking it increased by one or more grams.
Why do this project?
This science project is interesting because it tests a drug that is used by athletes to gain weight and muscle, but is banned by many professional sports organizations.
Also Consider
Variations of the experiment could include testing different doses of androstenedione, or testing the drug on different types of rodents.
