Raisin Count Across Cereal Brands

Easy
Raisin Count Across Cereal Brands | Science Fair Projects | STEM Projects
Does every box of raisin bran contain the same number of raisins per ounce? You open six different brands and separate every raisin from the cereal flakes. Then you count the raisins and weigh them to find the number per ounce. The six brands tested are Total, Vons, Safeway Select, Post, Kellogg's, and Oatmeal Crisp. Total has the most raisins per ounce. Oatmeal Crisp has the fewest. The brand with the most fiber on the label does not turn out to have the most raisins.

Hypothesis

The hypothesis is that Post Raisin Bran will have the most raisins.

Method & Materials

You will open six boxes of raisin bran cereal, pour the cereal into a bowl, and count the number of raisins.
You will need six boxes of raisin bran cereal, a bowl, and a scale.

Results

The results showed that Total Raisin Bran had the most raisins, followed by Vons, Safeway Select, Post, Kellogg's, and Oatmeal Crisp. Surprisingly, Post Raisin Bran did not have the most raisins, as was hypothesized.

Why do this project?

This science project is interesting because it allows you to compare the number of raisins in different brands of cereal.

Also Consider

Experiment variations to consider include comparing the number of raisins in different flavors of cereal, or comparing the number of raisins in different sizes of boxes.
